The DUH-202 is quite effective for the measurement of the hardness of surfaces of
metals, plastics, rubbers, ceramics, and many other materials.
The DUH-202 is unique in that it permits hardness measurement of thin films and surface
(treatment) layers which is impossible with conventional methods or instruments.
The measurable hardness range is as wide as 10-3 ~ 10-4. The
DUH-202 provides useful information on the hardness properties of surfaces, which is
becoming more and more important.
Metal Materials The hardness of very small areas of a fine structure material can be
reliably measured.
Plastics The hardness is an important feature of engineering plastics. The strength of
materials having high light absorption can be measured, which is difficult for
conventional methods or instruments.
Rubbers and Elastomers The hardness of rubbers have been measured under a fixed set of
conditions according to JIS K6301. The DUH-2020 permits measurement under various
different sets of conditions. Besides, this instrument permits hardness measurement of the
surface layers alone. This provides useful information for the study of the surface
deterioration.
Glasses and Ceramics Brittle specimens can be measured without formation of cracks. The
load that forms cracks can also be measured.
Thin Films The strength measurement of coating films produced by chemical vapor
deposition (CVD) or physical vapor deposition (PVD) or surface layers treated by ion
implantation is quite important for improving the technique of film production and surface
treatment. The DUH-202 is effective for this measurement using ultralow loads.
Fibers The DUH-202 may provide useful information for the strength evaluation of glass
fibers, carbon fibers, whiskers, and fibers made of other composite materials. It is also
useful for the hardness test of optical fibers.
Electronic Parts such as IC and LSI Hardness is an important factor for the evaluation
of reliability of LSI and other electronic elements. The DUH- 202 permits easy hardness
test of the desired parts of the pattern on an IC or LSI.
Particulate Matters Use of the optional flat-tip indenter provides easy meas- urement
of the proof stress of particles. The data obtained is useful for improvement of the
pretreatment technique or fine particles

Wide applications for measuring hardness of surface-finished products
and metallic materials
The HSV-20 is capable of a wide range of test loads; from 1.96 to 196N.
8 test loads are available and can be selected for a specific load range . The HSV-20 is
ideal for a wide range of high and low hardness measurements.
Automated testing process
Once the parameters for the load and load duration time are entered, the HSV-20
automatically performs test operations, from the load selection, through the indentation
process, to the release. This eliminates loading errors attributable to equipment
operators.
Storing test parameter files
The HSV-20 can store up to 10 parameter files. This is useful for measuring many samples
under the same test conditions or to modify a stored parameter file. The parameter files
remain stored even when the power is turned OFF.
Data processing functions
The HSV-20 has several data processing functions, such as data correction for spherical
surfaces, statistical calculations, as well as basic data processing.
LCD display and printer
The HSV-20 has an interactive graphic LCD display that makes entering test parameters
easy. The HSV-20 comes with all the necessary functions also including a data printer.
Peripheral equipment
Peripheral equipment, such as attachments and monitoring devices are optionally available.
Optional RS-232C or GP-IB transmission interface can also be installed.
Fully-automatic testing
By installing an automatic X-Y stage, the HSV-20 can be used as an automatic Vickers
hardness tester.
Large sample workspace
The HSV-20 has a large workspace for testing samples of approx. 200 mm maximum height and
approx. 170 mm maximum depth. This allows large samples to be measured easily.

The micro hardness tester is a piece of equipment that is indispensable to
metallographic research, product, quality control, and the creation of product
certification materials. For this type of work, it is important to be able to measure the
hardness of small parts and a metallic structures used in precision equipment, processed
surface layers, metal plating layers, etc. This type of measurement must be performed on a
limited small area with small damage to the area being measured, and must yield extremely
reliable results. The HMV Series hardness testers have been designed to meet these

Test Modes to Match the Objective
Standard and easy testing
In addition to standard testing mode which allows the setting of verious test conditions,
easy testing mode can also be selected for quick, hardness measurement based only on test
load and load duration settings.
Serial testing / Single testing
In serial testing mode, first a batch of indentations is made, and then the diagonal
length of those indentations are measured. In single testing mode, the diagonal length of
indentation is measured after each load application.
High Accuracy Measurement
The minimum unit of diagonal length measurement is 0.01 p m (when the objective lens is
X40), thus high-accuracy measurement is possible.
Excellent Man-Machine Interface
The use of an easy viewing LCD touch panel makes operation, including test condition
settings and display of results, quick and easy to understand.
Convenient Analysis & Graph Display Functions
A wealth of analysis functions is included as standard features, such as statistical
calculation data editing, conversion, graph display and an acceptable/not acceptable
decision function.
Automatically Revolving Electric Turret (only with HMV-2T)
After an indentation is made, the electric turret automatically revolve, ma to measure the
diagonal length of the indentation. This saves both the time and labor of the operator.
